Riftbound Pre-Rift Rules Explained: The Sealed Format for Launch-Week Events

Pre-Rift events are your first chance to crack open a brand-new Riftbound set and build a deck with it — before the set is even on shelves. Riftbound: Vendetta's Pre-Rift window ran 24–31 July 2026, a full week ahead of the set's official 31 July street date, and stores are running theirs right now. But the deck you build at a Pre-Rift plays by different rules than a normal Constructed deck — here's exactly how.

Pre-Rift is a Sealed event, not Constructed

At a Pre-Rift, you don't bring your own deck. The store hands you sealed product — booster packs — and you build your deck from whatever you open, on the spot. You can't add cards from your own collection; the entire deck comes from what's in front of you.

That single rule changes everything else about deck-building for the event.

The Sealed deck-building rules

• Minimum deck size: 25 cards (not the higher Constructed minimum) — though nothing stops you running more if you opened enough playables.
• No 3-copy limit. Constructed decks cap most cards at 3 copies; Sealed removes that cap entirely. If you crack four copies of the same card, you can run all four.
• Up to 3 domains. Sealed decks can draw from three domains of cards and Runes — one more than a typical two-domain Constructed build, to make room for whatever you happen to open.
• A Legend or Signature card covers two domains. If you open and run one, it counts toward two of your three domain slots, freeing up your card pool.

Why this is worth knowing before you go

Pre-Rift decks reward flexibility over a tuned gameplan — you're building around what you open, not what you planned. Go in with an open mind about domain pairings rather than expecting to force a specific Constructed archetype; the format is designed to make every pod's packs playable, not to reward hoarding one domain.
