Riftbound Neeko Spoiler: Blending In Breaks the One-Legend Rule

The first Riftbound: Radiance card anyone has photographed in print is Neeko — six days before Preview Season was due to show us anything. It is a good one to get first, because it does something no Riftbound card has done before, and because the small print at the bottom of it quietly settles an argument about how big this set actually is.

Why this is not just another 6-drop

A 6-energy 4-Might body is, on its own, unremarkable — Kayn, Unleashed costs the same and hits for 6. Nobody is playing this card for the statline.

They are playing it because of what a Legend is. In Riftbound, your Legend is the card the whole deck is built around — it is the closest thing the game has to locking in a champion, and critically it is what fixes your Domains. As our own deckbuilding guidance puts it: stay in your Legend's domains, because you cannot splash a card your runes cannot pay for. One Legend, one identity, decided before the game starts.

Neeko puts a second Legend on the table mid-game. Not permanently — the text is explicit that it lasts while I'm on the board — but for as long as she survives, your Legend Zone holds something it could not otherwise hold. That is a category of effect this game has not had, and it is why a card with a modest body is worth more attention than the Legend reveals it will sit alongside.

The deckbuilding half is just as unusual. You choose the three extra Legends when you build the deck, not when you play her, and they have to be three different ones — the card even defines "different" as "none match names", which is the kind of clause you only write when the obvious abuse is stacking three copies of the same Legend's printings.

The cost is paid before the game starts

Here is the part that will decide whether this card is a staple or a curiosity, and it is a genuinely open question.

Those three Legend slots are spent whether or not you ever draw Neeko. You commit them at deckbuild. If she is in your opening hand, you have a 6-drop that reshapes what your deck can do. If she is at the bottom of your deck, you have paid a real cost for nothing and you are down a card.

That is a variance trade rather than a power trade, and variance trades are exactly the kind of thing a format takes weeks to price correctly. Expect the first fortnight of Radiance to be loud and wrong about this card in both directions.

Neutral is doing a lot of work here

If Neeko were a Chaos card, this would be a Chaos-deck card and the conversation would end there. She is Neutral — the card says so in its own reminder text, in brackets, before anything else: Neutral cards can go in decks of any Domain.

That is what turns a single interesting effect into a format-wide one. Every Radiance deck, in every Domain, can run her without touching its rune base. Riftbound's neutral cards are the closest thing the game has to universal staples precisely because they cost nothing in deck identity to include — and the game has not previously handed the neutral slot an effect that reaches into the Legend Zone.

The other story: 167/167

Now the small print, which is arguably the bigger news.

The card is numbered 167/167. That denominator is the size of Radiance's base numbered run, and until this photograph nobody outside Riot had seen one.

It matters because the published figure said something else. Riot's own product rundown announced Radiance at "180 cards (66 Showcase)", and that phrasing is ambiguous in a way that pointed at two very different sets:

• Read inclusively — 180 total, of which 66 are Showcase — the base run would be about 114 cards, which would make Radiance the smallest mainline Riftbound set ever printed.
• Read exclusively — 180 base cards with Showcase on top, the way Origins, Spirit Forged, Unleashed and Vendetta all number their alt-arts — Radiance would be the second-largest.

We wrote both readings up rather than picking the flattering one, and said we would wait for a printed collector number to settle it.

It has settled it, and it settled it on neither. 167 is not 114 and it is not 180. It sits just above Vendetta's 166 and well below Unleashed's 219 — a normal-sized mainline set, which is the least dramatic of the three possibilities and probably the correct one.

We are not going to pretend that reconciles with the announcement, because it does not: 167 is not 180, and 167 plus 66 Showcase is not 180 either. Either the figure changed, or it was counting something outside the main numbering, or it was never exact. What is not in doubt is which number is printed on cardboard.

This has a practical consequence for pricing, which is why we changed it everywhere the same day. Our price matcher identifies a set from a listing's collector-number denominator — a listing titled "042/166" is unambiguously Vendetta. Radiance was carrying both guesses, 114 and 180, because no card had been seen. Both were wrong, and a Radiance listing reading "x/167" would have matched nothing and fallen through to an Origins default, quietly pricing a brand-new card as a two-year-old one. That is fixed.

How we checked the rarity

Small thing, but it is the sort of detail that gets guessed and then repeated for months.

Riftbound prints a rarity gem at the bottom centre of the card, and it is both shape- and colour-coded. Rather than infer Epic from the card's treatment — the art bleeds over the text box and the whole thing has a foil sheen, which is suggestive but not proof — we pulled two cards of known rarity from the card database and compared the gems directly:

• Kayn, Unleashed (OGN-189), a Rare: a magenta diamond.
• Sett, Brawler (OGN-164), an Epic: an orange pentagon.
• Neeko: an orange pentagon.

So: Epic. That is what is recorded on her card page, and it is checkable rather than asserted.

What is still unknown

Worth being explicit, because a lot of Radiance "information" currently is not.

Riot has not revealed this card. Preview Season opens 25 September at the Regional Qualifier in Los Angeles and runs to 9 October; that is when this stops being a photograph and becomes an announcement. The text does match wording that circulated as an unconfirmed leak earlier in September, which is corroboration of a sort — two independent sightings agreeing — but it is not the same as official.

Whether there is a Showcase Neeko is unknown. With 66 Showcase treatments announced and Neeko sitting in the set's final numbered slot as an Epic Champion Unit, a premium printing would be unsurprising. Nobody has seen one.

How it actually plays is unknown, and anyone telling you otherwise on day one is guessing. A card that changes deckbuilding rules rather than board states is exactly the type the community consistently misprices early.

What this means if you are buying

Three things worth holding onto.

Do not buy a Radiance single yet. There is no Radiance secondary market — the set does not release until 23 October 2026. Anything offered as a Neeko today is a pre-sale against a card nobody can deliver.

Watch the sealed price instead. The set's contents are what you can actually buy right now, and we compare Radiance pre-order prices across every tracked store — booster boxes, packs, the Vault and the Showdown Decks, cheapest first, in your own currency.

When singles do land, check the collector number before the name. With 167 base cards and Showcase printings numbering above them, "Neeko" will shortly mean several different objects at several different prices. The number is what tells them apart.
