What's in the Riftbound Spirit Forged Set?

The short version
- 221 base cards, numbered 001/221 through 221/221 with no gaps — Riftbound's second full expansion, 77 cards smaller than Origins.
- Rarity splits 60 Common / 63 Uncommon / 60 Rare / 38 Epic across the base set, plus 66 Showcase-tier printings on top, 12 of which are Signature versions.
- Units are 107 of the 221, followed by Spells (45), Gear (42), Battlefields (15) and Legends (12) — Gear is a far bigger share here than it was in Origins.
- Calm is the largest domain at 40 cards, Fury next at 38; Chaos and Order sit lowest of the six at 30 each, and Colorless adds 15. All twelve Legends are Fury, Calm, Mind or Body.
Spirit Forged (set code SFD) is Riftbound's second full expansion — the set that followed Origins and, in most players' collections, the one that still supplies a good share of the Gear and cheap interaction their decks run. Here is exactly what's in it: not an estimate or a copied-around figure, but the real counts from our own catalogue, broken down the way a set list actually gets used — by rarity, by card type, by domain, and by what the premium printings on top of the base set actually are.
The headline number: 221 base cards
Spirit Forged's collector numbers run from 001/221 to 221/221 with no gaps — a clean, complete base set of 221 cards. That is 77 fewer than Origins' 298 — the 24-card Proving Grounds aside, Spirit Forged is the first Riftbound set to come in smaller than the launch set — and it set the size that the next set, Unleashed, stayed close to at 219.
On top of the base 221 there are 66 Showcase-tier printings. They break down into three groups, and it's worth knowing the difference before you buy:
- 24 Showcase versions of base-set cards that keep their original collector number — every one of them a Unit. These are the premium treatment of a card that already exists in the base 221 (Draven, Vanquisher at 020/221 is a base-set Rare and also exists as a Showcase at the same number, for example).
- 18 over-numbered Showcase cards at 222/221 through 239/221 — twelve Units and six Gear cards. The six Gear are the "Seal of…" cycle (Seal of Rage, Seal of Focus, Seal of Insight, Seal of Strength, Seal of Discord and Seal of Unity), all of them Origins cards reprinted in a Showcase frame. The twelve Units mix more Origins reprints — Vayne, Hunter; Yasuo, Windrider; Darius, Executioner; Karma, Channeler and others — with Showcase versions of Spirit Forged's own Aphelios, Exalted, Bard, Mercurial, Yone, Blademaster and Soraka, Wanderer. All of them sit above the base total in the numbering, which is what "over-numbered" means.
- 12 Showcase Legends at 240/221 through 251/221 — one for each of the set's twelve Legends.
All twelve of the over-numbered Showcase Units (223 through 239, skipping the Seals) also come as Signature printings, which carry the artist's signature on the art and a star after the collector number (223★/221 and so on). Counting those, the Showcase tier is 66 printings of 54 distinct cards, and the full main print run comes to 287 printings. You'll see a higher total on our Spirit Forged set page because the catalogue also tracks promo and event printings, which sit outside the numbered run entirely.
If any of those printing terms are new to you — Showcase, Signature, over-numbered — the rarity and printings guide explains what each one is and which tend to hold value.
Rarity breakdown
| Rarity | Cards |
|---|---|
| Common | 60 |
| Uncommon | 63 |
| Rare | 60 |
| Epic | 38 |
| Base total | 221 |
| Showcase-tier printings (incl. 12 Signature) | 66 |
The shape is different from Origins, and the difference tells you something about how the set was built. In Origins, Common was the largest tier at 88 and Uncommon and Rare tied at 84. In Spirit Forged, Uncommon is the biggest tier at 63, with Common and Rare tied at 60 — the set is more evenly spread across its first three rarities than the launch set was, and Rares are almost as numerous as Commons. Practically, that means a "Rare" Spirit Forged card is not especially rare relative to the rest of its set, and the real scarcity in the set lives at Epic (38 cards, 17% of the base set) and in the Showcase tier above it.
Every one of the 38 Epics is a Unit, Spell or Gear — none of the Battlefields or Legends print at Epic. By type, that is 15 Epic Units, 12 Epic Spells and 11 Epic Gear. By domain, Calm leads with 10 Epics, Fury has 8, Mind and Body 6 each, and Chaos and Order 4 each.
Card type breakdown
| Type | Cards |
|---|---|
| Unit | 107 |
| Spell | 45 |
| Gear | 42 |
| Battlefield | 15 |
| Legend | 12 |
Units are just under half the set at 107. The number that stands out is Gear: 42 cards, nearly as many as Spells at 45. Origins printed 30 Gear against 84 Spells — a 1-to-2.8 ratio — while Spirit Forged is almost 1-to-1. If your deck runs a lot of equipment, this is the set where most of it comes from.
Two other things the type split shows: there are no Runes in Spirit Forged at all (Origins had 6), and every one of the 15 Battlefields is an Uncommon, so a complete Battlefield set from this expansion is cheap to put together.
Here is how the two dimensions cross:
| Type | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unit | 39 | 22 | 31 | 15 |
| Spell | 14 | 14 | 5 | 12 |
| Gear | 7 | 12 | 12 | 11 |
| Battlefield | — | 15 | — | — |
| Legend | — | — | 12 | — |
Note the Spell row: only 5 Rare Spells but 12 Epic ones. Spirit Forged's Spells skew to the extremes — either cheap, common interaction or a headline Epic.
Domain breakdown
| Domain | Cards |
|---|---|
| Calm | 40 |
| Fury | 38 |
| Mind | 34 |
| Body | 34 |
| Chaos | 30 |
| Order | 30 |
| Colorless | 15 |
The six domains are deliberately paired — Calm and Fury at the top, Mind and Body in the middle, Chaos and Order at the bottom — with Colorless (usable in any deck) adding 15. Compared with Origins, where Fury and Calm tied at 49 and Colorless had 28, Spirit Forged gives every domain fewer cards but keeps the same ordering, with Calm edging ahead of Fury by two. If you're building toward a single domain, expect roughly 30 to 40 on-domain cards from this set, plus the 15 Colorless.
The twelve Legends
Every Legend in Spirit Forged is a Rare, and there are exactly twelve — the same count as Origins. What is different is the domain spread: four Fury, four Calm, two Mind, two Body, and none at all for Chaos or Order. If you play a Chaos or Order Legend, your champion comes from another set.
| # | Legend | Domain |
|---|---|---|
| 181 | Rumble, Mechanized Menace | Fury |
| 183 | Lucian, Purifier | Fury |
| 185 | Draven, Glorious Executioner | Fury |
| 187 | Rek'Sai, Void Burrower | Fury |
| 189 | Ornn, Fire Below the Mountain | Calm |
| 193 | Jax, Grandmaster at Arms | Calm |
| 195 | Irelia, Blade Dancer | Calm |
| 197 | Azir, Emperor of the Sands | Calm |
| 199 | Ezreal, Prodigal Explorer | Mind |
| 201 | Renata Glasc, Chem-Baroness | Mind |
| 203 | Sivir, Battle Mistress | Body |
| 205 | Fiora, Grand Duelist | Body |
Each of these twelve also has a Showcase printing at 240 to 251 — Rumble at 240, Lucian at 241, and so on in the same order. Every champion here has a hub page that gathers all of their printings across every set with live prices — Rumble, Lucian, Draven, Rek'Sai, Ornn, Jax, Irelia, Azir, Ezreal, Renata Glasc, Sivir and Fiora — which is the fastest way to see how a Legend's base, Showcase and any promo printings are priced against each other.
The same twelve champions also get most of the in-numbered Showcase treatment: of the 24 base-set Units with a Showcase version, all 24 are champion Units — two apiece for the set's Legends (Draven, Vanquisher and Draven, Audacious; Ornn, Blacksmith and Ornn, Forge God; Irelia, Fervent and Irelia, Graceful, and so on).
The cost curve
Because our catalogue stores each card's printed energy cost, we can also show what the set's curve actually looks like. Across the 194 base-set Units, Spells and Gear (Legends and Battlefields don't have a cost):
| Energy cost | Cards |
|---|---|
| 0–1 | 19 |
| 2 | 51 |
| 3 | 47 |
| 4 | 34 |
| 5 | 19 |
| 6 | 12 |
| 7 | 8 |
| 8+ | 4 |
36% of the set's costed cards cost 2 or less, the single most common cost is 2, and the average across the set is about 3.4 energy. The expensive end is thin: three cards at 8 energy and one at 10 — Needlessly Large Yordle, a Calm Rare Unit — and that's it. Among Units specifically, the most common might value is 3 (29 Units), then 4 (28); the top of the range is Trove Golem, an Order Rare at 9 might.
What this means if you're collecting or buying
A few practical takeaways from the numbers:
- A complete base set is 221 cards, and 183 of them are Common, Uncommon or Rare. Given how evenly those three tiers are printed, the bulk of a Spirit Forged set is inexpensive to finish with singles — the cost is concentrated in the 38 Epics and the Showcase tier. Drop your want list into the bulk pricer and it will total the whole thing at the cheapest live price per card.
- The Showcase tier is really three different things, and they price very differently: a Showcase of a base-set card, an over-numbered Showcase reprint from Origins, and a Signature. Check which one you're looking at — the collector number tells you — before comparing two listings. The Signature printings and over-numbered printings pages list every one across all sets.
- Gear is the set's signature contribution. With 42 Gear cards, Spirit Forged has more equipment than any other single dimension of the set would suggest, and it's the set to check first when a deck's Gear slots need filling — the Gear card list covers every set, sortable by price.
- Prices move when new sets land. Radiance is the next set to release, and set launches are exactly when an older set's staples get re-evaluated. The price movers page shows what's shifting day to day, and a price alert on a card you're watching tells you the moment it moves.
