5 Beginner Mistakes When Buying Riftbound Cards (and How to Avoid Them)

RiftCompare · 9 June 2026 · 5 min read

Getting into Riftbound: League of Legends TCG is exciting — but it's easy to overspend when you're new. Here are the five mistakes we see most often, and how to dodge every one.

1. Buying from the first store you find

The same Riftbound card can cost wildly different amounts from shop to shop, and stock changes daily. Buying from the first store you land on is the quickest way to overpay. Instead, search the card database and you'll see the lowest live price across every store we track, sorted cheapest-first, with a one-click link straight to the shop.

2. Ignoring shipping

A card that's 50c cheaper isn't a deal if it adds postage from a separate store. Always compare the delivered cost, not just the sticker price — RiftCompare shows an estimated shipping figure per shop, and buying several cards from one store often unlocks free shipping and beats splitting your order across three.

3. Buying the wrong printing

Alt-art, Showcase, Signature, Overnumbered and promo versions of a card can cost many times more than the base print — and they play identically. If you just want the card for your deck, buy the cheap base version. RiftCompare labels each printing right in the card name, so you always know exactly which one you're adding to cart.

4. Ripping boxes hoping to pull what you need

Opening booster boxes is fun, but if you need specific cards to finish a deck, buying those singles directly is almost always cheaper than chasing them in packs. Save sealed for when you want the opening experience or to collect — and even then, compare box prices first. See our breakdown: singles vs sealed.

5. Overpaying during hype spikes

Prices jump around tournaments and new-set launches. Paying the first (inflated) number you see during a spike is a classic beginner trap. Check the price movers to see whether a card is riding a spike or sitting at a fair price, and set a price alert (tap the heart on any card) to get an email when it drops back down.

The one habit that fixes all five

Compare before you buy. Set your country at the top of the page, open the card database, look up what you want, and click through to the cheapest store. Do that every time and you'll build the same collection for a lot less.
