# The Best Riftbound Cards: What Winning Decks Actually Play

Which Riftbound cards are actually the best? Not an opinion — the 48 cards that show up across the real tournament decklists in the current metagame, counted, ranked by how many decks run them, and priced live.

## The short version

- **"Best" here means most-played, measured.** We counted every card across the real tournament decklists we track and ranked them by how many separate decks run them — no personal ratings.

Ask which Riftbound cards are "best" and you will get ten different answers, most of them somebody's opinion. This page takes the boring route instead: **we counted**.

Every decklist on our [meta decks page](/decks) is a real tournament result. Take all ten, count how many separate decks play each card, and rank by that number. A card that shows up in one list is that deck's card. A card that shows up in five, across different archetypes and different legends, is a card the format has agreed on — and that is a claim you can check rather than take on trust.

## How this list was built

- **Source:** the tournament decklists on [/decks](/decks), tracked from published event results.
- **Sample:** 10 decks, spanning ten different archetypes from aggro through to value midrange.
- **Rule:** count each card once per deck, however many copies it runs. Runes are excluded — every deck in a domain runs the same rune base, so counting them would tell you nothing.
- **Cut-off:** two decks minimum. Below that it is not a staple, it is a preference.

That produces **48 cards**. Twenty of them appear in three decks or more.

One caveat on the gallery below: it is drawn from our own card database, so a card we have not catalogued a printing for yet will be counted here but will not have a tile. That is deliberate — showing a tile for a card we cannot price would be worse than showing one fewer.

## The most-played cards in Riftbound

The single most-played card in the format is **Stacked Deck**, in five of the ten lists — no other card is in more than three. Below it sits a broad, flat tier: twenty cards each appearing in three separate decks, which is what a healthy, unsettled format looks like rather than one with a single obvious best card.

## What the counting shows

Three things stand out, and all three are just arithmetic on the table above.

**Spells are the shared language.** 22 of the 48 are spells, against 15 units, 7 battlefields, 2 gear and 2 champion cards. That gap is not subtle, and it has a straightforward explanation: units and champion cards are chosen to fit whichever legend a deck is built around, so they rarely cross between decks. Spells are the slots different decks independently arrive at.

**Champion cards almost never cross over.** Only two make the list at all — Irelia, Fervent in three decks and Rek'Sai, Breacher in two. Everything else in the champion slot is specific to its own list, which is what you would expect when each deck is built around a different legend.

**Battlefields consolidate hard.** Each deck runs three battlefields, so the ten lists have thirty battlefield slots between them — and only seven distinct battlefields recur across more than one deck. If you are buying, that is a short list doing a lot of work.

## "Best" is not the same as "most valuable"

This is the part worth being clear about, because the two lists barely overlap.

Play rate and price are set by different forces. A common spell that eight decks want can cost less than an Epic almost nobody plays, because the Epic's price comes from print scarcity and art rather than from anyone putting it in a deck. Neither number is wrong — they answer different questions.
